Fund Purpose:
This Fund shall be used to support students’ seeking a California teaching credential for the K-12 level in the Teacher Education Program at the School of Education.

William "Bill" O’Connor completed his undergraduate degree in political science and his teaching credential at UCR. He also received his associate’s degree from Riverside City College and his master’s degree from University of San Diego. He went on to have a successful career as a Social Studies and Civics high school teacher in Poway Unified School District. Upon retirement, he launched a political career which included his election to the Fallbrook Planning Group from 2016-2020, and served as a board member and president for the Fallbrook Union High School
District Board of Trustees from 2006-2013. Bill has been a strong and passionate advocate of quality education, with a particular passion for the value of a public education. He has remained committed to supporting the next generation through his philanthropic support at UCR, including
by establishing this scholarship.

Criteria and Selection Process:
This Fund shall award scholarships to students pursuing any Teaching Credential that will allow them to teach at the K-12 level at the UC Riverside School of Education. The recipient(s) will be selected by a committee selected by the Dean or their designee. At the discretion of the committee, more than one award may be made.
