Eff. 12/06/2022 fund former name: Karen Kyhn Scholarship Fund General Purpose: This Fund shall be used to provide support for the next generation of educators through scholarships for School of Education undergraduate students. BACKGROUND: Karen Kyhn is an alumna of the University of California, Riverside, where she completed her bachelor’s degree, teaching credentials and master’s degree. Karen began her career in education as an elementary teacher in the Menifee School District, where she taught for 18 years and was initially only one of twelve teachers at the district’s first school site. Karen spent the rest of her career working as an advocate for teachers and students in Riverside County, ultimately finishing her career as the Executive Deputy Director of the California Teachers Association in their northern California headquarters. Upon returning to southern California, Karen began looking for ways to pay-it-forward and give back to the educational community where she got her start. Karen is a lifelong advocate for education and is passionate about increasing access to education by bridging the gap that exists between students and reaching their educational goals. In creating this fund, it is her intention to meet the need for undergraduate scholarship support in the School of Education at UCR. Criteria and Selection Process: This Fund will support School of Education undergraduate students. The recipient(s) will be selected by a committee which will be appointed by the Dean or their designee. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year.
