Fund:

Plant Biology PhD Student Fellowship Endowed Fund

Department:

Botany and Plant Sciences Dept D01047

Purpose:

Graduate Student Support

Fund Purpose: This Fund shall be used to provide support to students enrolled in the Plant Biology PhD degree program, including but not limited to stipends, fees, and tuition. It cannot be used to pay non-resident tuition. It is not to be used for cash awards.

Criteria and Selection Process
The Fund shall be used to award PhD students as part of their admission package or at later stages of their program, but no student may receive funding more than once. For awards made as part of an admission package, students must have demonstrated financial need and be recommended for admission by the Plant Biology Graduate Admissions Committee. Students at later stages of their program must have demonstrated financial need, be making acceptable progress within
normative time toward degree, and maintain an acceptable GPA. Students may apply for funding in the spring quarter for support during the next fiscal year. The Plant Biology Graduate Advisor and Vice Chair for Teaching will determine the proportion of funds to be allocated to new students vs existing students, and decide which students receive funding. The proportion of funds awarded to new versus existing students is flexible because needs may change over time.

In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year.
