BACKGROUND
Robert M. (Bob) Fey was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Palm Springs when he was 14. He attended Palm Springs High School and UCLA, where he met his wife of 58 years, Cheryl. He earned his MBA in Finance and Accounting and was a Certified Public Accountant and a California Licensed Real Estate Broker. Bob returned to Palm Springs in 1972 at which time he joined his father, Roy Fey, in the family construction business. He was very active in the Palm Springs community at large, as well as in the Jewish community. He was President of the Neuro Vitality Center, Chairman of the Mizell Senior Center Endowment Fund, Treasurer of the Jewish Federation of Palm Springs, President twice of Temple Isaiah, Founder/Director of Lyceum of the Desert, President of the Wall of Life for City of Hope, and he participated in multiple charities as well as School Board and Community Election campaigns. Bob and his father, along with Agua Caliente Tribal Members, were responsible for the start of Residential Indian Leased Land in the Desert. Bob had a lifelong commitment to the development and welfare of the Palm Springs area. He was a founding member of The Bank of Palm Springs which was created to provide local lending for desert homeowners and local businesses and later was instrumental in the start of Canyon National Bank.

Cheryl and Bob Fey have been long-standing advocates for UC Riverside in the greater Coachella
Valley community. Bob served on the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees, numerous Foundation
Board committees, and the Planned Giving Advisory Board for UCR as Regional Chair. Cheryl and Bob Fey's commitment to Jewish Studies at UCR dates back to 2003, when they made their first financial contribution to the Maimonides Chair in Jewish Studies. The Feys have also been supporters of the School of Medicine and UCR Palm Desert Center. Cheryl has determined with UCR Development that Bob’s testamentary gift to the university would reflect his longstanding
commitment by supporting all three preferred areas of UCR equally. Learning that a match opportunity through the School of Medicine Mission Award Scholarship Endowed Fund would
provide a Mission Scholarship each year indefinitely, Cheryl chose to support the match by creating the Bob and Cheryl Fey Endowed Mission Scholarship Fund.

Fund Purpose: The fund will provide Mission Award scholarship assistance to a student(s) in the School of Medicine. Mission Award Scholarships provide an additional incentive for students who receive their medical degree from UCR to remain and practice in Inland Southern California. In return for accepting a Mission Award, the awardee agrees to practice in San Bernardino, Riverside, or Imperial Counties for a period of service (five years) upon completion of their residency. Awardees must practice medicine in one of the following short-supply specialties: Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, General Surgery or Psychiatry

Criteria and Selection Process
The School of Medicine Scholarship Committee will select medical student(s) who meet the above criteria as funds become available. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year.
