Fund: Associate Chancellor Staff Scholarship Endowed Fund Department: Staff Assembly Dept D01198 Purpose: Graduate Student Support BACKGROUND The scholarship was established by the Victorino-Clark family to support UCR staff members pursuing professional development through a UCR degree program. Christine Victorino was appointed Associate Chancellor at UC Riverside in 2016. Prior to working at UC Riverside, Dr. Victorino completed her master’s degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo while working fulltime, and then earned a Ph.D. in education at UC Santa Barbara. She has worked at colleges and universities across Canada and the United States. Dr. Victorino appreciated being able to begin her graduate education while working as a university staff member and seeks to support and encourage UCR staff members who share that aspiration. Fund Purpose; This Fund shall be used to provide tuition support for UC Riverside career staff members (career appointment > 50%) who are pursuing post-baccalaureate degrees at UC Riverside. The award shall be referred to as the Associate Chancellor Staff Scholarship and recipients shall be known as Associate Chancellor’s Scholars. Criteria and Selection Process Annual award(s) will be made under the Chancellor’s direction with recommendations by Staff Assembly as outlined below to a currently employed UC Riverside employee who is pursuing a UCR degree in any discipline, with a preference for those pursuing a graduate degree. Applicants will identify a UCR faculty or staff mentor, preferably in a senior level campus leadership position. Each staff applicant and mentor will submit a short list of mentoring outcomes, identify a timeline for check-ins during the year of funding, and submit a short statement (~250 words) describing how the UCR degree will further their career advancement. Applications will be submitted to Staff Assembly for review and adjudication. Top candidate applications will be shared with the Associate Chancellor, who will provide feedback and recommendations before Staff Assembly identifies the recipient(s). Dr. Victorino, while serving as the Associate Chancellor, will provide feedback and recommendations to Staff Assembly in an advisory capacity only and will not be involved in the selection process. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year. Eff: 11/30/2022 converted from 6I0112 to a true endowment.
