Purpose:

Graduate Student Support

Fund Purpose: This Fund shall be used to provide Mission Award scholarship assistance to a student(s) in the School of Medicine. Mission Award Scholarships provide an additional incentive for students who receive their medical degree from UCR to remain and practice in Inland Southern California. In return for accepting a Mission Award, the awardee agrees to practice in San Bernardino, Riverside, or Imperial Counties for a period of service (five years) upon completion of their residency. Awardees must practice medicine in one of the following short-supply specialties: Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, General Surgery or Psychiatry.

BACKGROUND
In June 2022, Teresa and Byron Pollitt pledged a gift of $250,000 to create the School
of Medicine Mission Award Scholarship Match Fund (“Match Fund”). The sole purpose
of the Match Fund was to support the School of Medicine (SOM) by offering a
challenge match to attract new donors and gifts in support of a newly created School
of Medicine Mission Award Scholarship Endowed Fund. Their gift encourages others
to give in support of an endowment that provides scholarship support for medical
students at the UCR School of Medicine by covering tuition and fees. Recipients of
these scholarships return to Inland Southern California to practice upon completion
of their training.

Criteria and Selection Process
The School of Medicine Scholarship Committee will select medical student(s) who meet the above criteria as funds become available. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year. In years when there is no candidate who meets the
