Eff: 12/31/2021 - True endowment converted from endowment intent #6I0124. BACKGROUND: Barbara Kerr graduated from UCR in 1968 with her B.A. in English. She then pursued a teaching credential at CSU Long Beach. She returned to Riverside and worked as a kindergarten and first grade teacher at RUSD for nearly three decades. She was elected to the California Teachers Association (CTA) Board of Directors in 1985 and went on to become President of the CTA in 2003, serving two two-year terms until her retirement in 2007. In 2006, Barbara was number three on the LA Times list of 100 most powerful people in Southern California. Barbara established the School of Education’s first scholarship for multiple subject credential students in 2019. In recognition of her continued dedication to Riverside’s next generation of education leaders, she seeks to now endow the scholarship so that it may be a permanent source of support for students and cement her legacy in the School of Education. General Purpose: This Fund shall be used to provide student support for the next generation of educators. Criteria and Selection Process: This fund will support School of Education credential student(s) who are pursuing their multiple subject credential. Recipient(s) must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be from or currently reside in Riverside County. The recipient(s) will be selected by a committee selected by the Dean or their designee. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year.
