Nicholas (Nick) Trunzo is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW),and has worked in the field of
human services primarily in the public sector. He served as the Director of Aging and Adult Services, a division of the Health and Human Services Department of Marin County, as well as in similar leadership positions for the County of San Diego. Nick holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from San Diego State University.

David Bergquist serves as Chief Campus Counsel at UC Riverside and has served as Senior Campus Counsel and Senior Counsel at UCSF and the Office of the General Counsel. Prior to joining the office, David was an equity partner at McKenna, Long and Aldridge in San Diego (now Denton's). He is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Minnesota Law School. Their shared dedication to the ability of education to change lives and to change the world inspired them to create an endowed student award fund for graduate students at UCR.

Fund Purpose: The Trunzo Bergquist Endowed Student Award Fund shall be used to provide graduate student support.

Criteria and Selection Process
- Recipient shall be a graduate student in good standing at UCR pursuing studies relevant to and for the benefit of the LGBTQ community and who has shown a demonstrated commitment to issues impacting the LGBTQ community (though the recipient need not self-identify as a member of the LGBTQ community).
- Recipient shall exhibit financial need.
- Preference shall be given to first generation students and/or fonner foster children.

In years when there are no candidates who meet the criteria, awards may be held until the following year when there is an eligible candidate. In years when there is more than one deserving student, more than one award may be given provided there is sufficient funding.
