Purpose:

Undergraduate Student Support

Fund Purpose: This fund shall be used to provide scholarship support to undergraduate students majoring in Humanities and Social Science in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.

Background:
Mr. Robert A. Bassine is an alumnus of UCR. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Psycology in 1985. Robert sincerely values the education he received and the foundation in the humanities and social sciences that played an integral role in his life and success after graduating. Robert used his education to achieve a very successful career in the area of Human Resources working as an executive at California Pacific Medical Center, the San Francisco Opera and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. As a beneficiary of scholarships during his time as a UCR student, Robert understands the financial challenges that many current students face. With his bequest, Robert is establishing his legacy at UCR with the primary goal of helping undergraduate students with financial need to pursue their studies in the humanities and social sciences.

General Purpose:
This Endowed Fund shall be used to provide scholarship support to undergraduate students majoring in Humanities and Social Science in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

Criteria and Selection Process:
Recipients of this scholarship will be selected under the direction of the Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, or his/her designee, in cooperation with the Financial Aid Office and in accordance with established University Policy. The Dean or his/her designee may appoint a committee to review and select recipients from the pool of eligible candidates. At least two scholarship awards will be made each academic year.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be undergraduate declared majors in good standing in one or more of the Humanities and/or Social Science disciplines within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Students must also have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. The Donor intends this scholarship to be primarily need-based, and although merit may be considered it is not a requirement for eligibility or selection.

In any year when there are no candidates who meet the eligibility criteria, the award may be held until a future year when there are eligible recipients.
