Background:
Judith Sophia Neveau was born in Hungary and immigrated with her family first to Sweden during World War II and then to the United States. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from UC Riverside in 1964 and is a life member of the UCR Alumni Association. She earned a M.Ed with an emphasis in psycology and counselling from UCLA in 1966. She returned to UCLA for professional certification in interior design, completed in 1979.

Ms. Neveau has had three different careers in her lifetime. Her career started counselling with Native American youth in the Southwest. Her second career was in interior design, where she ran her own interior design business. Her third career was at Santa Monica College, where she served as the director of community relations. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Santa Monica, having served as the group's president. Ms. Neveau has participated for many years in humanitarian trips to Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. She is also on the board of the Sister City Association and has travelled on friendship exchanges around the world.

The recipient of awards and recognitions from the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, Lions International of Santa Monica, and the California Heritage Museum, giving back and paying it forward is a core value for Ms. Neveau. This award brings together Ms. Neveau's commitment to student success, her belief in the value of international experiences, and her desire to give back to UC Riverside and her community.
