Purpose:

Undergraduate Student Support

This fund shall be used to provide financial support to students enrolled at University Extension.

Background:
Dr. Elena Romine is a lifelong supporter and true ambassador for UCR Extension. As a global perspectives and cross-cultural communications instructor at UCR Extension, Elena has taught over 150 courses, including lectures and special presentations, for over 25 years. She is also highly active in the Riverside community and has served as diversity trainer for the Riverside Polive Department for over 15 years. Throughout her career, Elen has served as a strong partner in advancing Extension's International Education Programs and is a proud member of the Extension's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Originally form Russia, Elena met her late husband, Theodore Joseph "Joe" Romine, in the United States while visiting with friends during her first Christmas holiday party. They shared a deep appreciation for education, politics and history, but most of all, helping others.

Dr. Romine wishes to establish this scholarship in honor of her late husband, with the intention of providing financial support to students wishing to study at UCR Extension. One of the programs that inspired Dr. Romine's charitable giving was the partnership between UCR Extension and Corazon De Vida, a nonprofit that provides life changing support for orphaned and abandoned children in Baja, Mexico, including those who have aged out of orphanages and are pursuing higher education. By establishing the Mr.Theodore Joseph and Dr. Elena Romine Endowed Student Scholarship Fund, she aims to provide access to academic excellence to students who might not otherwise have the financial means to participate in English language, certificate, and other academic and pathway programs at UCR Extension.
