Fund: Dick and Pat Robertson Endowed Transfer Student Scholarship Fund Department: Undergrad Student Financial Aid D02089 Purpose: Undergraduate Student Support BACKGROUND: Pat Sloan Robertson is the daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Donald Sloan and a 1970 graduate ofUCR with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science (History, Anthropology, and Political Science). After earning her teaching credential at UCR in 1971, she went on to be an elementary school teacher in Arcadia, California; Butler, Pennsylvania; and Lansing, Michigan. She also taught English as a Second Language and Adult Basic Education. Dick Robertson is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Wallace Robertson and a graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio. He also graduated with Master's and Doctorate Degrees from Michigan State University. The Robertsons met in Little Creek, Virginia, when Navy Officer Dick dove into a swimming pool and literally bumped into Pat. They married in 1972. They lived in Butler, Pennsylvania, East Lansing, Michigan, and Oceanside, California during Dick's years as a College Professor and Administrator. Dick retired in 2016 as Vice President of Student Services at MiraCosta College in Oceanside. The Robertsons are passionate about volunteerism. Pat serves as a dog walker, dog washer, and she has participated in the pet-assisted therapy program for the San Diego Humane Society for many years. Dick volunteers in the Emergency Room at Tri-City Medical Center and as a mediator for San Diego Superior Court Small Claims Court. Though they do not have children, they have adopted two house-trained rabbits and three rescue dogs during their marriage. They love travel, gardening, and exercise. Pat is a regular at Jazzercise and Dick is a dedicated swimmer. Devoted to the mission of Community Colleges, they chose to provide scholarship assistance to UCR students who transfer from any Community College. Their commitment to education is lifelong and, now, through this scholarship, beyond. Purpose: This fund shall be used to provide support to undergraduate transfer students. Criteria and Selection Process: The Financial Aid Office will administer the Fund and shall select students who meet the following criteria: -Undergraduate student transferring from a California Community College In years when there are no candidates who meet the criteria, awards may be held until the following year when there is an eligible candidate.
