Fund: Best Graduating Mathematics Major Award Endowed Fund Department: Mathematics Dept D01056 Purpose: Undergraduate Student Support BACKGROUND An alumnus of UC Riverside (class of 2001), Dr. Bryce Mason earned a B.S. in Mathematics with highest honors and was recognized with the Best Graduating Mathematics Major Award, a merit-based award presented to the graduating senior with the highest GPA in the Department of Mathematics. With deep appreciation for his outstanding educational experience at UCR, Dr. Mason wishes to provide the Department of Mathematics with the resources to reinstate the Best Graduating Mathematics Major Award as both an honorary and monetary award. It is his hope that fellow recipients of the award will contribute to the endowment, providing substantial support for future students and carry on the tradition within the Department of Mathematics. General Purpose This Fund shall be used to provide student support to undergraduates majoring in Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics in the College of Natural andAgricultural Sciences. A small portion of the annual payout shall be used for asmall recognition gift to be presented to the student recipient of the award.Historically, the recognition gift was an acrylic paperweight with the University of California seal. Criteria and Selection Process Financial Aid will make the selection for the award. They will notify the Chair of the Department of Mathematics, or his/her designee .. The Office of Financial Aid shall disburse the cash award. The award amount shall be based on the annualpayout.The student recipient shall be: 1.) A graduating Senior with the highest GPA in Mathematics courses of all Mathematics majors in his/her class up to the point of determination. 2.) The award shall he administered at the beginning of the winter quarter.
