Fund: Sean and Stella Harper Scholarship Endowed Fund Department: Undergrad Student Financial Aid D02089 Purpose: Undergraduate Student Support Background: Dr. Sean Harper attended UC Riverside for three years before transferring to the UC San Francisco where he earned his medical doctorate in a joint BA-MD program. Dr. Harper attributes his professional success to the foundational education he received while matriculating in undergraduate science courses at the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Harper spent over two decades in the biopharmaceutical industry and the last sixteen years at Amgen, where he was executive vice president of Research and Development, before recently retiring to co-found a start-up venture focused on the life sciences at Los Angeles. Dr. Harper and his wife, Stella Harpoothian, would like to support UC Riverside students in need and recognize the impact of merit-based scholarships. General Purpose: This fund shall be used to provide student support through merit-based scholarship in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Eff. 03/02/2023: Criteria and Selection Process: This merit-based scholarship shall be administered by the Office of Financial Aid and will be used to provide scholarship assistance to students based on their academic achievements and the criteria below: * Declared freshman or continuing undergraduates who are pursuing bachelor's degrees in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. * Residents of California. * Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who exemplify academic excellence. * Financial need is not a stipulation for qualification. * It is the donor’s preference that students who receive this award shall continue to receive funding in each consecutive year, provided they remain eligible based on the award criteria stipulated within the agreement.
