Background:
Barbara graduated from UCR in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Barbara continued her education at UC Berkeley and earned a Master's in Public Policy in 1979. Now serving as the Vice President and Chief Strategist for the Federal Reserve System Cash Product Office, Barbara joined the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco in 1979 and has held a variety of positions including Director of Corporate Strategy and Communications and Manager of Payments Strategies.

Jeffery graduated from UCR in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Economics. Jeff continued his education at UC Berkeley and earned a Master's in Economics in 1979. Jeff joined Pacific Gas and Electric in 1979 and worked there as an economist for 36 years, leading a variety of forecasting, quantitative analysis and market strategy functions before retiring in 2015. In his retirement, Jeff now takes classes at UC Berkeley through the Osher Life Long Learning program.

The Bennetts are passionate about providing scholarship support to students with financial need.

General Purpose:
This fund shall be administered by the UCR Office of Financial Aid and be used to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students from the Oakland Promise program or Oakland Unified School District. The student will receive a combined award of at least $1,600 each year for four years, beginning his/her freshman year, so long as the award criteria continues to be met.

Criteria and Selection Process:
The award shall be used to provide undergraduate student support for students meeting the following criteria:
1. Be an incoming freshman from the Oakland Promise program or Oakland Unified School District.
2. Have financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
3. Maintain good academic standing with the university.

Students should apply for the award through the UCR Office of Financial Aid.

In years that UCR does not have students from the Oakland Promise program enrolled or students from Oakland Unified School District, awards can be held until the following year.
