Purpose:

Graduate Student Support

The fund will provide scholarships to students enrolled in SOBA's a. Gary Anderson School of Management (AGSM) graduate programs.

Background:
Following an illustrious accounting career of over 40 years, including 27 years with the accounting firm, Ernst & Young LLP, Joe has been with Swenson Corporation for over 19 years. As a partner with Ernst & Young LLP, Joe developed a broad base of technical experience in serving as many businesses inclusing small, entrepreneurial companies as well as large multinational publicly owned corporations. Industries that have benefited from his experiences include banking, oil and gas, maufacturing, construction, heavy equipment sales, distribution, and retail companies as well as professional service organizations. Joe served the UCR Anderson Graduate School of Management as an Executive Fellow and is a member of the AGSM Dean's Advisory Council.


General Purpose;
The Award shall be used to provide scholarships to students enrolled in SoBA's. A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management (AGSM) graduate programs.

Criteria and Selection Process:
The Joseph P. Barr Award will be utilized to identify, recruit and retain the best and brightest local students from the Inland Southern California area to the AGSM at the graduate level in accounting and to ensure financial need does not hinder the academic and professional development of these students. Further, to recognize excellence in academic merit, leadership ability, and community engagement.

Scholarships will be awarded annualy to local students enrolled in one of AGSM's accounting programs.

Recipient(s) shall be selected by a faculty committee appointed by the Dean of the School of Business Administration. The donor or the donor's designee may serve as an advisor, non-voting member of the committee and will not participate in the selection process. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year.
