Garber Award in Applied Statistics Endowed Fund Department: Statistics Dept D01058 Purpose: Graduate Student Support History and Purpose: Dr. Morris Garber was a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Statistics. In 1999 he and his wife Gloria created The Morris J. and Gloria R. Garber Fund in Statistics to, as they wrote "reaffirm UCR's proud tradition of academic excellence, and in consideration of the generosity of other friends of the campus." Dr. Garber passed away on January 22, 2004. Selection and Guidelines: To honor the most outstanding student working toward a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics.Ph.D. students who have completed their Qualifying Examinations in Statistics during a given calendar year may compete. Each faculty member will make an independent appraisal of the competing students based on grades, thesis projects and departmental participation.
