Department:

SPP Dean's Office Dept D01313

Purpose:

Undergraduate Student Support

History and Purpose:
The mission of the Western Municipal Water District is to provide water supply, wastewater disposal, and water resource management to the public in a safe, reliable, and environmentally sensitive, and financially responsible manner. Water is essential to our daily lives and Western has worked hard to meet the needs of the public while educating the public about the importance of conserving water resources. Western Municipal Water District is a member agency of Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the state's largest water supplier. Today, the Western Municipal Water District serves roughly 23,000 retail and eight wholesale customers with water from the Colorado River, State Water Project and groundwater.

The general purpose of this Fund shall be used to provide scholarship assistance to undergraduate students from Western Riverside County, in their junior or senior year, (current or transfer students) with an interest in water (water management, water policy, water conservation, public administration).

Selection and Guidelines:
The Western Municipal Water District Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually by the Dean of the School of Public Policy beginning 2014-2015 to continuing or transfer junior or senior students from western Riverside County who maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher preferred, but 2.7 accepted if circumstances are explained in student statement, with an interest in water issues. It is the donor's preference that the students have an interest in pursuing public service.

As part of the application process, a one page statement is to be submitted as to the student's goals and interests in water. The recipient will be asked to make a presentation to the Western Municipal Water District's Board.
