Mary and Terry Schuler Endowed Scholarship for Guardian Scholars Fund

Mary and Terry Schuler Endowed Scholarship for Guardian Scholars Fund

Department:

Financial Aid

Purpose:

Undergraduate Student Support

History and Purpose:

In 1970, Mary and Terry both received their bachelor degrees from UCR, Mary in Comparative Literature and Terry in Political Science. Mary went on to receive her master's degree from Mt. St. Mary's College in 1974 and an Ed.D. in Education from Harvard in 2002. Terry received his master's degree from UCLA in Public Administration.

The Schuler's interest in foster care has been long term as they became foster parents when they were first married, prior to having their own children. Mary continues her involvement with assisting foster youth with prom dresses through the Glamour Gown Giveaway and Terry has provided pro bono consulting to the Alliance for Children's Rights, a nonprofit devoted to supporting foster children. He also serves on the Board of the Los Angeles United Way.

Mary and Terry have long supported UCR through their philanthropy and Mary through her service on the UCR Alumni Association Board. They wish to leave a legacy by establishing this endowed fund helping former foster youth achieve their goal of a college degree from UCR.

This fund shall be used to provide scholarship assistance and educational support to undergraduate Guardian Scholars who have been emancipated from the Foster Care system.
