Fund: William Henry Willis Endowed Memorial Poetry Prize Department: Creative Writing Dept D01035 Purpose: Undergraduate Student Support Fund Purpose Eff. 07/03/2020: This award shall annually recognize creative excellence by one or more undergraduate students working toward a bachelor's degree. Eligible students include both majors and non-majors. History and Purpose: The William Henry Willis Memorial Poetry Prize is an annual cash poetry prize to honor the memory of John Willis's father, William Henry Willis, who respected education and wrote poetry in his spare time. The award is to recognize an original poem from a UCR student which best uses whimsy and inventive wordplay to capture the warmth of the human spirit. Finalists are selected by a UCR Creative Writing committee and forwarded to the family for final selection.
