History and Purpose:
Richard and Barbara Ratto wish to establish a scholarship fund named for their daughter, Laura M. Ratto, a graduate of the University of California, Riverside (UCR), Class of 2000. A setter on the Highlander volleyball team from 1996 to 2000, Laura finished third on the all-time list in career assists and fourth all-time in assists per game. Mr. and Mrs. Ratto's intention in creating this fund is to impact the future by investing in students at UCR.

Criteria and Selection:
The scholarship recipients shall be selected on the basis of merit. The recipient shall be an undergraduate student who graduated from a high school located in the state of California, is a member in good standing of the UCR Intercollegiate Women's Volleyball team or Sand Volleyball team, is studying a field of science as a major or minor, has a minimum GPA of 3.20 and preferably comes from a middle income family.

Selection shall be made by a designee appointed by the Athletics Director. In any given year when there are no candidates who meet the criteria, the award may be held until the next award cycle in which there is an eligible candidate. In any given year when the award was not disbursed the previous year, the designee may, but is not required to, award the scholarship to more than one recipient provided there are worthy candidates and sufficient funds to do so.
