History and Purpose:

To provide financial assistance for LGBTQIA-related leadership development opportunities to UCR students based on such factors as LGBTQIA community involvement, exceptional student leadership and contributions to the LGBTQIA community, and financial need.

Selection and Guidelines:

When funds are available, the LGBTQIA Student Leadership Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate and graduate UCR students based on academic achievement, personal merit, and their contributions to the LGBTQIA community. The scholarship was founded to award exceptional student leadership in the UCR lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and allies community.

To be eligible for the LGBTQIA Student Leadership Scholarship, the applicant must meet these requirements:
- Be a full time undergraduate or graduate student at the University of California, Riverside, of any sexual orientation or gender identity
- Be in good academic standing (at least 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale)
- On-line applications will be taken in Spring Quarter with a May deadline and the award will be posted for use in Fall Quarter. Applicants must be enrolled a minimum of half time in the fall quarter to be eligible to accept award.
- The application includes an essay regarding involvement in the on-campus LGBTQIA community and UCR LGBTQIA student groups.
- Be able to demonstrate the following:
o Excellent leadership qualities
o Extensive involvement with the on-campus LGBTQIA community, including UCR LGBTQIA student groups
o Concern for LGBTQIA issues e.g. issues of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender persons, queer people of color, and general LGBTQIA political issues.
- Selection of scholarship recipients will be made by members of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of LGBTs and announced at the annual Lambda Celebration in June.
