History and Purpose:

Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is the Coachella Valley's comprehensive medical center that has as its mission to understand and provide for the health care needs and expectations of the community through needed and valued programs and services with its staff physicians, employees, volunteers and community. It is renowned for its clinical care services in bariatric surgery, cancer, cardiac/heart care, diabetes, diagnostic imaging, emergency/trauma services, hospice, orthopedics, neurosciences, physical rehabilitation, transfusion-free medicine and surgery, women and infant services and wound care. DRMC is committed to the continuous improvement of the health and well-being of the communities it services with a commitment to clinical excellence demonstrated through measurable quality outcomes. As part of its mission, it is dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of physician leaders are educated and prepared to take on the rigors of clinical care. It is for that reason that DRMC desires to establish a student assistance fund for the education of future physicians who will be students in the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine (UCR-SOM).

This Fund shall be used to provide financial assistance for medical students in the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine (UCR-SOM).

Selection and Guidelines:

To provide financial assistance for medical students in the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine (UCR-SOM). No application is required. Personnel from the UCR-SOM will notify award recipient(s).

Students shall be selected for this award at the sole discretion of a special committee comprised of faculty and staff members of the UCR-SOM. Students selected for this award shall be first, second, third or fourth year medical students in the UCR-SOM. These individuals must demonstrate financial need. Award recipients must be in good academic standing.

In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year.
