Purpose:

Graduate Student Support

History and Purpose:

This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Robert Zweig, who was a clinical faculty member in the Biomedical Sciences program. Dr. Robert Zweig was instrumental in organizing an association called Clean Air Now ("CAN"), and he provided leadership to CAN over the years. He was a world-renowned advocate for society's transition to a renewable hydrogen energy economy. His interest in working on behalf of activities that would facilitate clean air stemmed from his concern about the high incidence of pulmonary and respiratory ailments in this region.

As a member of the Biomedical Sciences Clinical Faculty, Dr. Zweig taught the "Introduction to Patient Exam" course to second year medical students. He was a favorite of the students, who loved his passion and embraced his overriding concern for the patients he served.

Dolores Zweig Lambert, in association with CAN, established the Robert M. Zweig, M.D. Memorial Scholarship in 2003 to support graduate students, specifically medical students.

Selection and Guidelines:

The Robert M. Zweig M.D. Award is a scholarship fund for First Year Medical students. The annual recipient is selected by a committee of Divisional faculty, in conjunction with the Zweig Family, based on an essay describing their interest in medical problems accruing from air pollution.

There is no application procedure for students. Personnel from the UCR School of Medicine will notify the student award recipients.
