Fund: William G. Skotty Endowed Golf Fund Department: Intercollegiate Athletics D01099 Purpose: Undergraduate Student Support History and Purpose: Donald R. and Anne E. Skotty established the William G. Skotty Endowed Golf Fund to honor the memory of his uncle, William G. Skotty. William Skotty was a distinguished World War II veteran whose passion for golf was kindled with weekly miniature golf outings in Los Angeles. An avid "duffer" he was a long-time member of the Travelers Golf Association. Mr. Skotty was a baseball letterman while a student in Riverside's Polytechnic High School, and as an adult he was active in local softball leagues. He was married to Patricia Skotty who is an active member of the UCR Retirees' Association. Mr. Skotty was 82 years old when he passed away in January 2006. To honor the memory of his uncle, Donald and Anne Skotty felt that the creation of the William G. Skotty Endowed Golf Scholarship would be a fitting tribute to a man who enjoyed being on the greens with his golf friends and who valued higher education. Should UCR cease to have an intercollegiate golf program, this fund will support intercollegiate baseball. The Gift Funds shall be used to establish an endowment fund ("Fund") to benefit and support student-athlete scholarships for the men's and women's intercollegiate golf team. The recipient will be selected by a committee including the Golf coach, Assistant Athletic Director for Development and the Athletic Director in consultation with a representative of the Family, in accordance with established University policy. The Skotty fund will provide a four-year scholarship for a member of either the men's or women's Golf team and have alternating four-year cycles between the men's or women' team. Should UCR cease to have an intercollegiate golf program, this fund will be converted to one that supports intercollegiate baseball. In addition to athletic accomplishment, the merit-based scholarship recipient must demonstrate academic excellence, a clear sense of civic responsibility, and love of country. If the endowment reaches a level to support a merit-based scholarship with additional funds, these additional funds will be available for living expenses, should the recipient demonstrate need in this area. Selection and Guidelines: There is no application procedure for students. Coaches and the Director of Athletics will notify the student award recipients.
