Eff: 06/17/2025 Update Selection & Criteria

Section II.A., Selection Criteria, shall be changed to:
1. The recipient(s) is an undergraduate student, who has a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher (First year and transfer students without a UCR GPA should have a cumulative high school or transfer GPA of 3.3 or higher).
2. The recipient(s) is the child, grandchild, or close relative of a UCR retiree, staff member, faculty member, or emeritus/emerita faculty.
3. The UCRRA Scholarship Committee will develop and require students to complete an application to collect and evaluate the above criteria and additional student information, such as the applicant’s extracurricular activities, career goals, leadership roles, hardships and financial need.


Eff: 12/21/2022 Update Selection & Criteria

In section II.A. of the fund agreement, the Selection Criteria shall be changed to:
1. The recipient(s) is an undergraduate student, who has a cumulative 3.0 GPA or
higher (First year undergraduate students without a UCR GPA should have a
cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 or higher).
2. Preference will be given to the children and grandchildren and/or close relative of
a UCR staff member or retiree.
3. As part of the application process, the UCRRA Scholarship Selection committee
is interested in understanding applicant’s financial need. By submitting an
application, applicant agrees to have the UCR Financial Aid Office confirm their
financial need to the UCRRA Scholarship Selection Committee.
4. At the discretion of the UCRRA, the Financial Aid Office will determine the
recipient(s) based on the above criteria and in coordination with the Office of
Human Resources.


History and Purpose:

The purpose of the UCR Retirees' Association (RA) is:

A.) To offer opportunities for social, cultural, and other continuing relationships among the members of the UCRRA and the University community.
B.) To foster continuing involvement in campus activities, volunteer work, or part-time employment.
C.) To inform and assist members in utilizing benefits available to them. To enhance campus benefit programs, and to develop special or one-time opportunities for retirees.
D.) To participate in the system-wide Retirees' Association Council of University of California Retirees' Association (CUCRA).
E.) Founded on 7/9/1990, the Retirees' Association is an officially recognized affiliated organization per Regent's Policy 5203 Policy on Support Groups, Campus Foundations, and Alumni Associations per UCOP President M. Yudof 3/26/2012.

Purpose and Selection Guidelines:

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support to UCR's undergraduate students. The number and dollar amount of the awards will vary depending on availability of funds and the endowment payout. Below is the scholarship selection criteria and timeline:

Selection Criteria:
1.) Preference will be given to the children and grandchildren and/or close relative of UCR non-Senate staff members. If necessary, criteria 2 through 4 will also be used to select the recipient(s).
2.) The recipient(s) is a continuing, undergraduate student, who has a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher.
3.) The recipient(s) is an under-represented student, first generation college student, transfer student, student veteran, foster youth, and/or an immigrant student.
4.) At the discretion of the UCRRA, the Financial Aid Office will determine the recipient(s) based on the above criteria and in coordination with the Office of Human Resources.

Timeline:
5.) The scholarship(s) is awarded by the Financial Aid Office before the beginning of the classes in the quarter indicated by the UCRRA.
6.) The student(s) is sent a congratulatory letter by the Office of Financial Aid before the disbursement is made.
7.) The Financial Aid Office asks the recipient(s) to send a thank you note/letter to the UCRRA, in care of the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Office will then forward the thank you note/letter to the President of the UCRRA.
