Fund: Flora Ortiz Endowed Scholarship Fund Department: SOE Dean's Office Dept D01000 Purpose: Graduate Student Support History and Purpose: Dr. Flora Ortiz, Professor of Institutional Leadership Policy Studies in the UCR Graduate School of Education, received her Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico and worked at UCR from 1972 to 2004. Her major teaching and research interests include school careers, women and persons from minority groups in school administration, socialization processes, school superintendence, educational facilities construction, and qualitative research methods. During her 32 years of dedicated service to the University and the campus, Dr. Ortiz served as the MA program advisor for hundreds of Ph. D., M.A., and Administrative Services Credential students. Most notably, she has chaired the dissertations of more than 35 Ph.D. students and was a member of the dissertation committees for many more Ph.D. candidates, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers in university teaching and leadership positions in education. In appreciation of the contributions Dr. Ortiz made to the Graduate School of Education, the Dean's Office established an endowed fund in her name with gifts from her colleagues and former students. The Flora Ida Ortiz Endowed Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to a deserving student in the Department of Institutional Leadership and Policy Selection and Guidelines: The fund will be used for scholarships for deserving students studying woman in educational administration, Latina Superintendants and Latino student achievement.
