History and Purpose:

Dr. Ayra Moti was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 2, 1970 and at the age of three moved to Riverside, California. He attended Highland Elementary School where he was the chess champion from third through sixth grade. In University Middle School he was the student president and county math champion. At North High School he was a drum major and a member of the school's academic decathlon team which won the 1988 countywide championship. Arya majored in pre-med at the University of California, Riverside, graduating in 1992. He decided to become an orthopedic surgeon after he injured his knee while playing rugby at UCR.

Dr. Moti received his D.O. from Western University, Pomona, and did his residency at Botford General Hospital in Farmington, Michigan. Upon completion of his studies, he resided in Tampa, Florida, serving as a team physician for the Florida Boxing Commission. In fall of 2005, he established The Moti Center for Orthopedic Surgery Sports Medicine in Brookville, Florida. He enjoyed all sports including snowboarding, rollerblading, indoor Hockey, and wakeboarding, but most of all he loved his patients and his contribution to their well-being. He was not only a dedicated and accomplished surgeon, but also a kind, caring, humorous, lively human being who touch so many lives. Dr. Moti passed away in August 2006.

Selection and Guidelines:

The fund is to be used for the benefit and support of UCR undergraduate students who are in the Medical Scholars Program (MSP) and are planning on going to medical school. (updated on 12/19/2014).

No application is required. The MSP will select from qualified students enrolled in their program.
