Former fund name: Lance and Maureen Loomer Endowed Award in Biology

History and Purpose:

Maureen Loomer established the Lance and Maureen Loomer Endowed Award in Biology on December 30, 2005 in honor of her late husband, UCR alumnus Dr. Lance Loomer. The couple met in the mid-1970s as UCR undergraduates where they "lived in Maison Francais and courted over cat bones in Vertebrate Anatomy."

Lance earned his M.D. at Wake Forest University and practiced hematology and oncology until his untimely death in 1996. Maureen was an ultrasound technician and, following retirement, returned to school, earned a B.S. and a Masters Degree in Biology from East Carolina University. She now teaches Biology at Wayne Community College. Maureen has established endowments at Wayne Community College, Eastern Carolina University and at the University of California, Riverside.

The Drs. Lance and Maureen Loomer Endowed Award in Biology provides financial assistance for graduate students in biology, preferably those with an interest in cell or molecular biology.
