Fund: James & Margaret Lesley Endowment Department: SAAIP Administration Unit D02136 Purpose: Graduate or Undergraduate Student Support History and Purpose: Dr. James Lesley was a professor of Genetics in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences; his wife Margaret was a Research Associate in the Department of Botany & Plant Sciences. The Lesleys worked together on many projects, including the development of disease-resistant tomatoes and new varieties of peaches. The James & Margaret Lesley Endowment was established 1979 to assist biology and agricultural science students in their research projects. The Lesley Prize is given annually for the best 2- to 3-page report of completed original research by a UCR student in these designated areas. James Lesley passed away in 1982, his wife in 1988.
