Fund: Jack and Marianne Hewitt Endowed Scholarship Fund Department: Intercollegiate Athletics D01099 Purpose: Undergraduate Student Support History and Purpose: Jack Hewitt was the founding chairman of UCR's Physical Education Department and UCR's first Director of Athletics. His vision and contributions laid the groundwork for today's Division I Athletics program. In 1991, following his retirement, he and his wife Marianne planned that after their lifetimes, a portion of their estate would be left to UCR to create the Jack and Marianne Hewitt Endowed Scholarship Fund at UCR. The scholarship provides support for UCR's finest scholar-athletes. Selection and Guidelines: There is no application procedure for students. Coaches and the Director of Athletics will notify the student award recipients. Hewitt Scholarships are awarded to students athletes with financial need. A recipient selection committee is formed to choose the recipient. The committee is composed of the Athletics Director, Associate Athletics Director, and Assistant Vice Chancellor of the Department of Athletics.
