Department:

Undergrad Student Financial Aid D02089

Purpose:

Undergraduate Student Support

History and Purpose:

Mr. John Cote, a prominent Riverside business leader, originally established the John Cote Endowed Scholarship in 1988 with a gift for unrestricted scholarships through the Rotary Club. In addition to the Rotary Club, Mr. Cote was a member or leader of many civic groups such as the Monday Morning Group, the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, and the United Way of Inland Valley. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Mr. Cote came to Riverside as a child. As a young adult he worked for a moving and storage company, eventually becoming sole owner for more than 40 years, retiring at the age of 82. Prior to his death in 1997, Mr. Cote arranged that this fund be endowed and administered by the UC Riverside Foundation. The Cote Scholarships are used by Financial Aid to fill gaps in funding for student support.
