Fund: Gilad Silver Memorial Fund Department: MFA Writing Desert Campus Dept D01283 Purpose: Graduate Student Support Fund Purpose: The purpose of the Fund is to support students who have an interest in poetry and have selected non-fiction as an emphasis. This Fund shall be used to provide an annual award up to $10,000 to a graduate student in the Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts program. The purpose of the Fund is to support students who have an interest in poetry and have selected non-fiction as an emphasis. The fund shall be awarded for one quarter of a student’s residency in order to support their work and creative process through the program. Criteria and Selection Process: At the direction of the Director of the Low-Residency Program and/or their designee(s), an incoming or continuing graduate student from the program will be selected annually to receive the Lizi Gilad Silver Memorial Fund award. Criteria include: - Graduate student in good academic standing - Have an emphasis in non-fiction and an interest in poetry The Director of the Low-Residency Program and/or their designee(s) shall manage an open and transparent call for proposals and make publicly known the name and funded research of the awardee(s). It is the donor’s desire that as a part of the open call that students are asked to discuss in an essay of no more than 1500 words the importance of poetry and/or nonfiction and share the effect of poetry and/or nonfiction on their life. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, funds will be held until the following year. A student may receive the award only once
