History and Purpose:

The fund shall be used to provide student scholarships in the UCR School of Medicine beginning August 2015. The scholarship will become part of the School of Medicine repayable scholarship program.

The scholarship will be awarded to students from educationally and/or socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, based on a holistic profile that takes into account academic accomplishments, cultural competencies and a commitment to practice medicine in Riverside or San Bernardino Counties in one of the following shortage areas: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology or Pediatrics.

Selection and Guidelines:

Student awardees will be selected by a committee of medical school faculty. The scholarship is renewable upon review of the students' standing by the aforementioned committee. Should a student not continue, another student will be chosen.

In accepting this scholarship, students commit to practice in Riverside or San Bernardino Counites upon completion of their residencies for a period equal to 1 year and 3 months for each year of their awards and understand that the scholarship is part of the School of Medicine repayable scholarship program.

No student application is required. Personnel from the UCR School of Medicine will notify award recipient(s).
