History and Purpose:

Dr. Thomas Halsey received his B.S. degree in Physics for the University of California, Riverside in 1980, and A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Harvard University in 1981 and 1984 respectively. After post doctoral work at the University of Chicago and the Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de saclay, France he joined faculty of the University of Chicago in 1987. He received a presidential Young Investigator Award in 1980 and the Alfred P. Sloan fellowship in 1993. He later joined Exxon Mobil Upstream Research Company as a manager. Dr. Halsey is a true scientist and had published nearly 100 journals articles and several books throughout his career.

This Fund shall be used to provide merit scholarship assistance to incoming UCR freshmen with high academic performance and promise.

Selection and Guidelines:

This Fund shall be used to provide merit scholarship assistance to incoming UCR freshman with high academic performance and promise.

The UCR Financial Aid Office will select the scholarship recipient based upon academic merit. In years when there is no candidate who meets the criteria, awards will be held until the following year.
