History and Purpose:

This fund was established in memory of Mr. Toshiaki Hasegawa by his employer Frank Cozza and other friends. The late Mr. Hasegawa was Vice President and Farm Manager of Cozza Farms, Chula Vista, California. He was dedicated, resolute, and often outspoken in his belief in the future of agrriculture and the need for progressive change with the times. He studies agricultural methods through intensive reserach and experimentation and his practices helped him develop new techniques of considerable value for vegetable growers in Southern California. Of his many accomplishments, his leadership in the field of drip irragation has led to the use of drip irrigation for pole tomatoes and for other vegetable crops. The initial gifts were accepted on behalf of the Chancellor on February 26, 1975.

Selection and Guidelines:

Income used to provide scholarship support to a senior majoring in crop agriculture. This includes students majoring in Entomology, Soils and Plant Nutrition, Plant Pathology, Plant Nematology, Plant Sciences, Biology and Agricultural Economics.
