History and Purpose:



This fund, Marius DeBrabant Fund also known as the Chancellor's Performance Award was established in July of 1967 with a gift of $77,678.63 from the Estate of Marius DeBrabant to the Regents of the University of California. Marius deBrabant was a prominent official with various rail and shipping companies around the US. He was the Vice President of the Los Angeles-Pacific Navigation Company in the 1920s and lived in the Southwest. Mr. De Brabant was a noteworthy figure in the early 20th century in California History. His sister, Rachel DeBrabent, a once resident of Riverside was instrumental in persuading her brother to give the the scholarship to the University of California, Riverside.
