History and Purpose:

The Chilcote Archives (see http://library.ucr.edu/content/collections/spcol/universityarchives/u012.pdf and The Latin American Perspectives Archive (see http://library.ucr.edu/?view=collections/spcol/archives/s013.html ), housed in the Tomas Rivera Library, were established when UCR Professor Emeritus Ronald H. Chilcote contributed his personal collection of nearly 12,000 books and periodicals on the politics, economy and history of Latin America, Portugal and Portuguese-speaking Africa. Funds from the Chilcote & Latin American Perspectives Fellowship Endowment are for the purpose of enhancing Latin American Studies and providing fellowship support to scholars interested in using the Chilcote Archive, the Latin American Perspectives Archive, and the Latin American materials through the Latin American Perspectives Visiting Fellowship Program.

Selection and Guidelines:

Funds from the endowment are for the purpose of providing scholarship and fellowship support to scholars interested in using the Chilcote Archive, the Latin American Perspectives Archive, and the Latin American materials housed in the Rivera library. Applications for the Latin American Perspectives Fellowship may be obtained from and returned to the UCR Libraries or the Latin American Perspectives publication. Funds will be awarded after a review of applications by the University Librarian or their designee and the Latin American Biographer in consultation with the managing editor and coordinating editors of Latin American Perspectives. An effort will be made to appoint at least one fellow per year. The Latin American Studies Committee will be made aware of awards and involved in the fellow's visit.
