Highlander Day of Service Frequently Asked Questions
What is Highlander Day of Service?
Highlander Day of Service pays homage to UC Riverside’s national recognition as a leader in community service. In 2015, the inaugural year, over 500 participants registered for 25 projects throughout California. HDoS allows alumni, parents, students, and friends to show their UCR pride and commitment to service by organizing and participating in local community service projects.
Who can participate?
Everyone is welcome to participate in Highlander Day of Service. Projects will note age restrictions. Do note that all participants that are under 18 will need a legal guardian present to sign a participation waiver.
How do I register a project?
After confirming your project with your local organization, you can register the project on the main website. All projects must be approved by office staff prior to being listed on the website. Please allow 48 hours for processing. Please see our Organizer Packet for additional information.
Does it count if I volunteer for a solo project?
Absolutely! Be sure to register your project and follow up with photos so we can include them in our recap.
Who do I contact with questions about a specific project?
Please contact the project coordinator listed for the project.
I do not see anything listed in my area.
New projects are added often, so please check back. If you do not see a project in your area we suggest reaching out to local charities in your area to look for volunteer opportunities and start one yourself!
The project I want to attend is full.
Often times people’s plans change, so keep checking back. You can also contact the project coordinator to see if the project can accommodate extra volunteers.
Will I get updated information?
You will receive a confirmation email after your sign up for your project with information including location, arrival time, and parking information. Additionally, you will receive a reminder email the Monday prior to Highlander Day of Service
I can’t volunteer on that day; is there anything else I can do?
Yes! You can always support UCR by making a tax-deductible donation to the UCR Foundation. Doing so is fast and easy.
I am a UCR Parent. Do I receive points for this project?
Yes. Parents who volunteer for any project will receive 1 point per project.
